8 weeks after hitting Francis Scott Key Bridge

MSC Dali moved to Baltimore port

by Port News Editorial Staff

SALVORS, in collaboration with Baltimore Unified Command, refloated the MSC Dali boxship,  and moved it  to the city’s port.

The operation began in the morning at high tide and involved removing some of the 1.25-million-gallon water ballast which had been pumped into the ship and carrying out detailed inspections to ensure that all possible obstacles had been taken away.

Five tugs escorted Dali on its 2.5-mile journey up the Patapsco River to Seagirt Marine Terminal.

The Unified Command said they were pleased to see the successful refloating and moving of the M/V Dali to its new location.

With the removal of the M/V Dali, rescue teams can now return to the task of clearing the rest of Fort McHenry Canal, making it fully navigable again.
