MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Co has ordered ten LNG dual-fuel boxships from China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard.
The 10,300 TEU capacity vessels are set to be delivered between 2026 and 2027. Their cost is assumed not to be very different from what was requested for building another ten 11,500 TEU dual-fuel vessels last February from the Chinese shipyard, i.e. $120 million each.
At present, the world’s largest carrier has 116 ships on order, with a combined capacity of over 1.4 million TEUs or 27.8% of its current fleet.
