The MSC group is one step closer to taking over Il Secolo XIX. This was disclosed in a joint press release by the shipping company led by Gianluigi Aponte and the Gedi group. It specifies that the parties are to begin exclusive negotiations to allow due diligence to take place. At the same time, they intend to proceed with preparing and discussing contractual documents that will regulate the operation.
The press release stressed that the transaction also includes the digital and advertising sales activities relating to the newspaper Il Secolo XIX , as well as four papers associated with it, like The MediTelegraph, L’Avvisatore Marittimo, Il Giornale del Ponente Ligure and TTM- Tecnologie Trasporti Mare.
Gedi Group CEO Maurizio Scanavino stated that the transaction ims to guarantee a solid future for a newspaper as important as Il Secolo XIX. He stressed that the Msc Group knows how to accompany the paper’s evolution in this new phase, creating a collaboration with Gedi that reflects the affinities and shared values of two important Italian entrepreneurial families.“With this sale, Gedi will essentially complete the process started a few years ago that saw it focus on national newspapers. Building on the leadership it has gained in several market segments, Gedi will now focus on two priority objectives: seize all the potential of the ongoing digital transition, while fully respecting the identity of its newspapers la Repubblica and La Stampa, and at the same time develop new initiatives and entertainment projects, which originate from the quality of our three radio stations (Deejay, Capital and m2o), to build a strong, innovative and dynamic digital media company.”
