Reorganizing Transatlantic Trade

MSC to launch Med–Canadian service

by Port News Editorial Staff

Just over six months after the termination of the 2M partnership, MSC has announced it is revising its transatlantic services between the Mediterranean and North America.

The Med-Canadian Service will start from the beginning of next month, as a result of  the merger between two link services previously operated by the shipping line, Canex1 and Canex2.

It will operate the following rotation: Gioia Tauro-Napoli-Livorno-Genoa-Valencia-Sines-Halifax-Montreal. The difference from the two pre-existing services is that the port of Barcelona will no longer be called at, possibly due to the congestion problems it has been suffering from over the last few weeks.

Details about the vessels that will be used in the Med-Canadian Service have not yet been revealed, but it is certain that it will be launched on 4th July with the departure of the 4200 TEU MSC Tamara from Gioia Tauro.
