The Panama Canal is to have a new large reservoir designed to solve the drought problems that limited access to one of the world’s most important shipping transit routes last year.
The $1.2 billion project was approved by the Panamanian government a few days ago. It involves building a dam and reservoir on the Indio River.
It will take 6 years to complete. According to the Canal Authority, the project will become one of the most significant public investments of the decade, generating a significant number of jobs and contributing to the country’s economic growth and prosperity.
