Clarksons Research forecast

Orders for LNG Carriers up in 2021

by Port News Editorial Staff

After just a 5.1% growth rate in 2020, one of its lowest levels seen since 2013, the LNG carrier fleet is expected to increase by a hefty 10% in 2021.

In its latest report dedicated to LNG., Clarksons Research points out that, at the beginning of June, the LNG Carrier Fleet consisted of 648 vessels, with a total capacity of 97,5 thousand cubic meters and worth an estimated 71 billion dollars.

The orderbook in the first five months of 2021 amounted to 149 ships, with an overall capacity of 21.9 thousand cubic meters, about 22% of the total. The estimated value of the orderbook is $27 billion.

Clarksons’ growth forecast for 2022 is not so rosy: the fleet is expected to grow by only 4%.
