Piombino, record w/end transits

by Port News Editorial Staff

An impressive 101,000 ferry passengers transited through the port of Piombino between Friday and Sunday; 56,807 arrivals, 45,085 departures to/from the islands  of Elba, Sardinia and Corsica.

On Friday alone, over 30,000 passengers arrived and departed to and from the islands with 17,084 people disembarking and 13,041 embarking accompanied by 9889 cars (5682 arriving from and 4207 departing for Elba, Sardinia and Corsica).

Saturday was by far the busiest day, with 37,170 passengers and 12,011 vehicles. A total of 22957 people disembarked from the islands (16,757 from Elba alone) with  6558 vehicles (over 5000 from Elba), while 17,071 passengers and 5453 vehicles embarked.

On Sunday, 34,597 tourists and 11,259 vehicles transited along Piombino port’s quays. 19,624 people arrived  with 6467 vehicles. While departing passengers and vehicles totaled 14,973 and 4792 respectively.

Record-breaking numbers, higher than in 2019, which are good for the port economy but need to be carefully managed in terms of traffic. The Port Network Authority’s Port Security personnel worked flat out over this three-day peak period to manage traffic flows arriving and departing from the port.

Overall, 47 more staff were deployed between Friday and Sunday than are usually required in day-to-day activities, bringing the total number of working hours to 311.5.

366 vessels  arrived and departed between Saturday and Sunday, split equally between arrivals and departures.
