In August, the Port of Los Angeles handled 806,000 TEUs, about 15% less than in the same month last year.
Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka stated that some of the cargo that usually arrives in August for the autumn and winter season was shipped earlier by shippers to ensure they reached their destination on time. Likewise, concerns about inflation and high inventory levels have led some retailers and e-commerce vendors more cautious.
A total of 404 thousand TEU were imported (-17%). Twenty-foot containers being exported amounted to 100 thousand (-1%), while empty containers amounted to 301 thousand (-18%).
In the first eight months of the year, the US port handled 7.2 million TEUs, 1.6% less compared to the same period in 2021.
