Hapag Lloyd closed 2021 with record revenues of around €22.3 billion, up 75% on the previous year.
The result should be read in light of the significant increase in freight rates. Last year, the average rate for shipping a twenty-foot container was $2,000, an 80% increase over 2020.
On the other hand, cargo volumes shipped during the year saw only modest increase compared to 2020, from 11.8 to 11.9 million TEUs.
It’s EBITDA amounted to 10.9 billion euros (+ 304%), while operating income was around 9.4 billion euros (+ 615%).
