Alphaliner Report

Seaspan top non-operating owner

by Port News Editorial Staff

Seaspan remains firmly at the top of the world’s first thirty maritime asset owners and operators. According to Alphaliner’s latest report, the Atlas subsidiary, which charters its vessels to major shipping companies, now has a fleet of 191 ships and a total capacity of 1.95 million TEUs. The US company has 35 new vessels (475,000 TEUs) on order.

The Japanese company Shoei Kisen, with 83 ships under its belt and a 835,000 TEU capacity, is in second place. However, the operator did not order any new ships, unlike the one in third position, Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), which has commisioned 19 newbuildings totalling 259,000 TEUs; an important consignment that will soon integrate the company’s fleet, which currently consists of 55 ships with a total capacity of 630,000 TEUs.

Zodiac Maritime (with 53 units and 607 thousand TEU) and Costamare Shg (with 70 units and 523 thousand TEU)  rank fourth and fifth.
