Selling and purchasing operations in the boxship market slumped dramatically in the third quarter, although prices generally remain high, according to Alphaliner in its latest report.
Only 103 ships, totaling 380,000 TEUs, were sold between July and September. This is a significant drop from the 170 ships and 625,000 TEUs that changed hands in the second quarter. The highest peak was reached in June with a total of 73 ships sold.
Following this general trend, the market’s largest buyer, MSC, also reduced its purchases in the last quarter, buying a total of 26 vessels, compared to 40 vessels in the previous quarter.
