The Omicron variant is really starting to get scary. The Port of Singapore has announced that it has suspended crew changes and vaccination coverage activities for all seafarers who have recently been to Africa.
The decision stems from concerns expressed by the local maritime industry over the upsurge in new cases of Covid recorded in recent weeks in Europe and the African continent.
A communication issued by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore specified that the crackdown on crew changes applies in particular to seafarers who stayed in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe over the last 14 days.
