Partnership between a healthcare provider & a mobile network operator

Singapore tests seafarer telemedicine

by Port News Editorial Staff

In the maritime sector, there is increasing interest in the development of 5G technology and the implications that the next-generation network may have in the field of medicine.

In Singapore, mobile network operator M1 has partnered with Asian healthcare service provider Fullerton Health to introduce 5G telemedicine services for the maritime sector.

As part of the partnership, seafarers working on board ships at sea will be able to conduct live teleconsultations with health workers ashore. 5G-enabled drones will also be available to deliver medicine to crews from the quayside.

The telemedicine service will be officially launched in July 2023 and made available to all seafarers or employees of shipping companies in Singapore, both ashore and at anchor, as long as they are connected to M1’s 5G network.
