Smart ports, the Livorno model is a benchmark in Italy

The Tuscan TPCS debuts in Venice too

The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority’s Tuscan Port Community System (TPCS) is expanding nationwide.

After being made available to the Sardinian Port Network Authority and the Central Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority in February 2024, the Tuscan interoperable digital platform that shares and simplifies information and logistics flows on goods import and export is now heading for Venice.

In fact, this morning Venice and Livorno Port Network Authorities signed a technology transfer agreement that will allow the Venetian port community to implement the digital platform already being used successfully in the Tuscan port of call.

The agreement will enable the Authority to equip itself with a new interoperable system with the port community dedicated to sharing information on customs procedures. It is set to be operational by the end of December. Its implementation, made possible by PNRR funds, will provide a number of modules for port operators, in particular for managing arrival and departure cargo manifests.

“The agreement signed this morning bears witness to the strategic choice our Port Network Authority made in 2011 to develop a modern, efficient information flow management tool, a model that has triggered a decisive change in the way data is shared among the stakeholders involved,” said North Tyrrhenian PNA President Luciano Guerrieri.

“We are pleased to see that our Port Community System (PCS) is now considered a benchmark at national level, so much so that it has been adopted in Sardinia, Campania, and now also in Venice. We will continue to work on enhancing how this platform can be used. It provides high added value for the entire port community,” he concluded.

PNA Managing Director, Matteo Paroli expressed his satisfaction: “Today’s result certainly distinguishes the North Tyrrhenian Port Network in the national panorama,” he said, adding that: “The path our PNA has chosen for digitalizing its services now presents levels of quality that bode well for the future. It is a process that is supported by the experience we have consolidated over the years thanks to the expertise and professionalism of our staff.”

“One of the Port Network Authority’s development priorities is digitalizing processes for streamlining procedures and boosting greater cooperation among operators. Thanks to the agreement that has just been signed, we will be able to update our systems with a platform capable of offering a single entry point and a repository of information and services available to the entire port community. This could make our ports more competitive and strengthen the teamwork between all those involved,” said North Adriatic Port Network Authority President Fulvio Lino Di Blasio.
