Wholesale market struggling

US warehouses running out of room

by Port News Editorial Staff

American goods warehouses are full and companies are finding it increasingly difficult to clear their backlogs according to Sea Intelligence, after analyzing data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

The consultancy firm points out that sales data shows a steady 5% decline in wholesale trade from its peak in June 2022. On the other hand, retail sales showed no downward trend.

Retailers don’t have any particular problems clearing warehouse stockpiles, unlike wholesalers who are experiencing an increase in the inventory-to-sales ratio.

According to Sea Int. wholesalers may decide not to import goods ahead of the summer peak season, hence there will be a weaker peak season than normal.
