“What is missing in our talks with JSW are details of their business plan. Port areas are only granted if the activities being proposed are both tangible and relevant.” the President of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Luciano Guerrieri, told il Tirreno newspaper, stressing that “the plan that is about to be presented to us must be a practical one”.
Piombino port’s leading figure puts things straight about the talks between the Port Network Authority (PNA) and one of the two multinationals involved in the project to relaunch Piombino’s steel cluster.
In the case of Metinvest, Guerrieri points out that the prerequisites for the framework programme agreement have been stipulated in a procedural agreement. The Metinvest terminal includes 15 hectares of areas adjacent to the steel industry wharf, with 820 metres of quay, 600m of which under concession and 220m intended for other uses if necessary.
The PNA President pointed out to Il Tirreno how one of the main prerequisites in the procedural agreement for leasing the areas was the need to build a port terminal, well- accessible from the sea with a water depth of -15m, and shoreside with a suitable rail link.
The Port Network Authority has requested the necessary funding for the work, which amounts to €130 million. Resources that – Il Tirreno specifies – have been requested from the (Italian) Ministries for Business & Made in Italy and the Infrastructure &Transport, which will be included in the programme agreement.
