A 41-year-old worker died in the port of Ortona (Chieti) from the very serious injuries he had sustained after being struck by a metal crane hook that hurled him into the sea.
The man was working on the Micoperi pontoon when he was hit in the head by the hook. The emergency helicopter ambulance transported him from the scene of the accident to the hospital in Pescara, where he died as soon as he arrived at casualty.

Rodolfo Giampieri, president of Assoporti (the Italian port association) expressed his heartfelt condolences: “We stand by his family and reiterate how the safety and health of workers is indispensable for everyone and has to be safeguarded daily,” he concluded.
