ZIM ups its average vessel size

In terms of capacity, over the past 12 months, ZIM’s average vessel size increased by 30.8% year-on-year, according to Alphaliner. It its report, it points out that the Israeli shipping company is gradually closing the gap with the top ten carriers in terms of fleet size growth.

The global container fleet currently has a total capacity of 30.2 million TEUs. It consists of  6278 ships, with an average size of 4809 TEUs, i.e. 3.5% more than the 4645 TEU average on August 1st 2023.

Together with MSC and CMA CGM, ZIM is among the top ten carriers with the greatest increase in its average capacity, which is around 5748 TEUs.

During the reporting period, the Italian-Swiss carrier’s average vessel capacity size increased by 5.8% to around 7121 TEUs. The French liner’s fleet size grew by 5.3% (5873 TEUs).
